Abstract
This study hypothesized suicide attempts among older adults with disabilities may be associated with high risk depression and anger, while moderated by the satisfaction with use of facilities for persons with disability (SUF). We used 202 data of older adults with disabilities who participated in surveys on SUF conducted by Korea Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities in 2021. The main results are as follows. First, those with high risk depression accounted for 22.8% (n=46), which implied that one out of five older adults with disabilities may be classified into clinical at-risk depressive symptoms. Second, high risk depression increased the risk of suicide attempts by 1.46 times, and anger by 2.95 times. Third, the three-way interaction term of depression, anger, and SUF was negatively associated with suicide attempts. This means that the higher SUF, the lower the risk of suicide attempts, even in the great depression and anger circumstances. Based on results, policy and practical implication such as expansion of facilities for persons with disability, investing in gatekeeper trainings were suggested.
